We are pleased to present this guide to assist the public, researchers, and public employees in their research.  A staff member is always available during our business hours to assist you with your research by walk-in, mail, or email.  Please try to be as specific as possible when making requests to enable us to return them to you in a prompt manner.

The following is a list of records housed in our office at the Preble County Courthouse.  These records are the most requested records used for genealogy purposes.  If you would like additional help or information, please contact our office.  The Archives and Special Collections Department at Wright State University Dayton, Ohio is also home to many of our records.

• Estate files: 1808 – presently closed cases
• Marriages: 1808-1996
• Wills: 1816-1961
• Birth and Death records: 1867-1908
• Plat books, Mortgage books, Deed books, Inventory and Sale Bills: 1822-1857
• Naturalizations: 1860-1899
• Commission Journals: 1808-1887
• Record of Common Pleas: 1853-1858
• Common Pleas Cases such as Criminal, Divorce, and Civil (Please obtain case numbers from the Preble County Clerk of Courts Office located on the third floor of the courthouse).

Be sure to check out the Preble County Room at the new district office located at 450 South Barron Street Eaton, Ohio.  The library has been working with the Microfilm Office in purchasing a great deal of the microfilm from various offices in the Courthouse used for genealogical research.
